Hips N’ Lips had the opportunity to cover the “Purple Carpet” for the 5th Annual Purple Affair 2016 and when I tell you we came in contact with so many great spirits we are forever grateful!
The Ceo and Founder Mrs. Tamiko Lowry Pugh and her team did that honey! From purple decor, to the food, entertainment, all the way down to awareness and testimonies and lastly being a blessing to survivors! Her story is amazing! She is a survivor who has written books and helped women gain shelter after leaving their abuser! Who would’ve known that this event went from “The Purple Party” with 8 people in attendance 5 years ago! Now the attendance is over 150 and people coming in from out of town!
The event started off with a fashion show starring domestic violence survivors walking to the songtress Amber LaShae! Former Fox 5 Atlanta News Anchor Lisa Rayam was a fabulous host and MC. George Franco from Fox 5 also attended and did the auction.
Words cannot describe the women we met and networked with on Saturday! Starting with the Founder Mrs.Tamiko, she is so down to earth and does this genuinely from the heart not looking for anything in return! When I tell you, she cried pretty much throughout the entire event! She cried throughout the whole event! The testimonies from the beautiful April Kelley, Life Coach, the amazing Nikki Payne, Author were mind blowing! Dr. Sonya N Brown brought it with her message as the Key Note Speaker. They honored three lovely women with the “I am Every Women” Award! These women are active in their communities, helping survivors get back on their feet after they finally get the courage to leave whether it’s emotionally, financially or spiritually. They are there! Hips N Lips new auntie Mrs. April LaLand Sentmanat was one of the three to receive an award! We chopped it up with her prior to the event she is awesome. Ms Lori Still who came all the way from Virginia and last but certainly not least Dr. Catrina Pullum Co-Author from Dallas!
Seeing these ladies in the streets now you would never know their pain, past, obstacles or struggles! Domestic Violence is serious and is no joke several thousands of women have died to from the hands of their abusers! Hearing these ladies speak was a true testament of how good God is! He brought them out now they are able to pay it forward!
Hips N’Lips would like to personally thank The Fabulous Ms Tonnae Nicole for the plug and Ms LillieMae PR for the invite for us to cover! It wasn’t until after the event we truly learned about all of the prominent and powerful women we were surrounded with at this event. Just know this is the first of many events Hips N’Lips will cover! The Purple Affair will be must every year going forward!!
Go check out our pictures from the event on our home page!
As I looked around the room, I saw so many beautiful women dressed in different shades of purple. ROYALTY! What really stood out to me was the fact that not one women in the room looked like what they had gone through. As I listened to Nikki Payne’s first words, “GOD IS SO GOOD!” I had no idea how her testimony would grip my heart. Her spirit was on public display, she had a light that radiated from her despite what she had been through. I was moved as I listened to April Kelley belt out the words to SURVIVOR! She gave thanks to her father for showing her what true love really looks like and she thanked her brother (A Marine) for speaking up on how a man should NOT treat her. That touched my heart, because many women don’t have a father in their lives to show them what’s right. I was beyond grateful that My father stood with me every step of the way and never gave up on me. The strength of the Almighty bounced off my new “Auntie” April LaLand Sentmanat as she stood to accept her “I AM EVERY WOMAN” award. I can understand why she was right on point ready and willing to praise dance in the middle of the floor with me. If you only get a piece of her story, that’s enough to make you shout! Founder of The Still Standing Foundation Tomiko Lowry-Pugh, WOW! What a angel! She has dedicated her life to save and assist women who have gone through domestic abuse and she salutes those who have survived. She has seen many highs and lows being a advocate and shares that the task at hand is no easy tackle. The fact that she intends to use the proceeds of the affair to help a woman obtain reconstructive surgery! YASSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! HONEY!!!!!! She is a WARRIOR and she fights for women just like ME!!!! The highlight of my night was when Lori Still stood to give her testimony of her bout with domestic abuse. She SURVIVED but she wanted to acknowledge her mother for finally STANDING UP AND SPEAKING OUT against her own struggle with abuse!!!!!!!! Over 60 years and she made the decision to SPEAK!!!!! I was touched and moved like never before!!! Words cannot express the feeling I felt leaving the venue! I felt empowered, thankful, and grateful that I was able to walk away from abuse. I Survived just like all the beautiful ladies in that room. To every survivor that slayed the runway. YALL DID THAT!!!!!!!!!
